How can I firm up lines and wrinkles?

November 15th, 2013
Q.
Hi Dr Thorne,
I have purchased a product which is meant to firm up lines and wrinkles with ions-but so far I havent seen any improvement.
I am 37 and have lines around my eyes and just above my eyebrows. Should I continue to use this (it cost me £100) or seek Botox treatment or fillers? The lines I have are not very bad but they are getting worse over time so I would like to stop them from getting deeper whilst they are not too bad. What would your advice be?I got in on a popular discount website and I use it but I really can’t see that it is making any difference at all and it is quite time consuming Kind regards,
A.
Hi There Not knowing what the product is and how pronounced the lines are it is difficult to advise you on the possible results. Generally in the areas that concern you Botox is our first choice of treatment and you can get fantastic results with it. I would suggest a consultation to advise you of some results.
Kind regards
Adam

What treatment would be best for my facial lines?

March 7th, 2013
Q.
Hi Dr Forrester,
I wondered if you could give me some advice?I have some lines above my eyebrows and also around my eyes. I was thinking about having some sort of fillers as I am 38 and want to keep on top of any lines or wrinkles. What fillers would you recommend to fill out these lines? Or do you think Botox might be better?I would like a natural look as I work as a teacher and wouldn’t want to scare the children! I look forward to hearing from you.
A.
Hi there,

Lines in those areas are usually ‘dynamic’ lines. That means that they get deeper during facial movement and smooth out when the muscles are relaxed. In this situation Botox is usually the best option. When subtly done Botox will still look natural and your pupils won’t notice.
It may be that fillers could be an option but I could only really give an opinion face-to-face.

What treatment would you recommend for newly formed wrinkles from neck to chest?

November 30th, 2012
Q.
Hello there, my question is regarding treatment of the decolletage its not something Ive ever thought about until this last week when I woke up with a wrinkle right down the middle of my chest from my neck that had not gone by the time I was dressed! but gone at night time. Iam now worried that a permanent wrinkle has formed and as I age currently 35 it will be permanent. They say dermal fillers is the best way to treat this area is that correct? or would botox be better? also is it too late to prevent any further lines? if not what do you suggest lots of moisturiser? thank you for your help.
A.
Good question.
No to Botox for the décolletage.
The lighter HA fillers such as Restylane Vital do work well on this area. In addition I would consider use of a Vit C Serum and cautious retinol.
Collagen-induction treatments such as micro-needling (Dermaroller) and INTRAcel definitely have a role.
The best results come from using combinations of these.

Best wishes,

What do you think about Tear Troughs? What about Botox? I’m not sure I like the idea of it!

October 23rd, 2012
Q.
Dear Peter iam wondering if you can help me, Ive seen your before and afters on here and the tear troughs one is amazing, I have a few questions one for my mum aged 56 regarding the tear troughs pics how much is it for that result estimate as I know its hard, do you practice in the north west area at all? if not do you recommend anyone? and for me Iam 32 with luckily only a few tiny lines on my forehead across and central between eyebrows would microdermabrasion suffice and work for now or do you recommend any other facial treatment without needles!? or do you recommend botox (very scared bout it) or Ive heard alot lately re baby botox so its nowhere near as noticeable its been done what are your thoughts on baby botox, thanks for your help
A.
Hi there,
When it is well done I think Tear Troughs are a fantastic treatment. I only practice in Surrey but I know of a very good Tear Trough doctor in the Cheshire area. If that’s any use to you I suggest that you email me directly (see my website for email) and we can take it from there.

Usually forehead and frown lines are due to the repeated creasing effect of the underlying muscles which is why the muscle-relaxing effect of Botox is so effective. Nobody likes the thought of injections but the Botox needles are really tiny and I have ‘needle phobic’ clients who cope very well. Microdermabrasion is unlikely to work.

Baby Botox is a term used to describe the use of small doses of Botox to preserve a lot of muscle movement. Although this may seem an attractive option and can work well we mustn’t lose sight of the fact that Botox produces it’s anti-wrinkle effect through muscle weakening. Hence the less the muscle weakening, the less the anti-wrinkle effect will be. This balance between dose of Botox and effect is one that is best decided at a face-to-face consultation because each person will differ in what they are looking to achieve.

Best wishes,

I’m spending a lot of money on make up and beauty products, is it better value for money to try dermal fillers?

October 17th, 2012
Q.
Hi, quick question Adrian – I seem to be spending a lot recently on make up and beauty products to make me look younger and my skin firmer. Probably around £40 per month if not more. I have never had any cosmetic surgery and was just wondering if you think it may be better value for money to try Botox or a dermal filler? Can you buy a few treatments at a time to bring down the cost or is it just one off treatments only? Thanks Adrian hope to hear from you soon!
A.
You are right that non surgical treatments may be better value money for you in the long run.

I think it would be best if you sent a photo of the areas of concern to us at info@aurora-clinics.co.uk and we will provide you with our expert advice on the best way forward.

I have excess skin hanging down under my chin, can i dermal filler help to firm this up?

October 12th, 2012
Q.
Hi there Adrian I hope your OK. Underneath my chin i am getting some excess skin hanging down and wobbling when i talk! Which has never been a good look! I was wondering if any dermal filler would work to firm this bit of skin up? Is an operation to remove the excess skin a better way? I just thought having a facelift was slightly too drastic as dermal fillers seem quite easy and safe? Hope to hear from you soon!
A.
Hi

It is possible to tighten up the skin on your neck either with surgery or botox injections. Botox injections tend to weaken the muscles which pull the skin downwards.

I think it would be worthwhile considering these options and if you would like to book a consultation to discuss the options available to you please do call my office on 01844 214362.

I’m a male with deep wrinkles in my forehead, what would be the best treatment?

October 5th, 2012
Q.
Hi Peter, Hope your doing well. I’m in my mid 40’s now and have developed some unsightly wrinkles on my forehead. To tell the truth i was slightly embarrassed to go into a clinic and ask about dermal fillers so i thought i’d just ask on here. With male wrinkles i know they are a lot more pronounced on the face so i was wondering what the best type of dermal filler would be for myself? How many times per year would i have to receive treatment for these? Hope to hear from you soon!
A.
Hello there,

Most people develop forehead wrinkles because of the action of forehead muscles repeatedly folding the skin. This usually results in vertical frown lines between the eyebrows and horizontal lines that get worse when looking surprised or raising the eyebrows. As the skin progressively ages, this repeated folding slowly changes from being visible only during movement to being there all the time. There are two main approaches – either to weaken the muscles temporarily with Botox or fill the lines with dermal filler.

Any of the hyaluronic fillers would be suitable, however I tend to prefer Restylane because of its long safety record. In this situation fillers may appear to have advantages over Botox particularly with regard to longevity. However, most people who are bothered by these lines are likely to have strong muscles (which is why they’re getting the lines) this means that their muscles will tend to crease the fillers, significantly reducing their effect and length of action.

Because of this the best approach is often to weaken the muscle action with Botox and then consider the addition of a small amount of filler to treat any lines remaining after Botox. This approach might need to be repeated 2-3 times in the first year but then perhaps only 1-2 per year.

The best option for you can only be decided following an examination of your forehead and discussion of the pros & cons.

I hope this helps, best wishes

I’ve started getting wrinkles at the age of 19, am i too young for dermal fillers?

October 5th, 2012
Q.
Hi Adrian, I’m 19 years old and i can see myself that i am already getting some wrinkles. Especially round my eyes, unfortunately i started smoking when i was 15 🙁 I was basically just wondering if you thought it was a bit drastic to have dermal fillers seen as though i’m only 19? My mum doesn’t think i should but i am very self concious about it, could you recommend anything else that could reduce the wrinkles around my eyes? Look forward to hearing back!
A.
Thank you very much for your enquiry.

If you do have wrinkles around your eyes at 19 you are slightly unlucky and ideally it would be best to stop smoking as this can make the lines worse.

19 is a little bit young to have dermal fillers or Botox which are normally used to treat these areas, however I think it might be helpful to send photos to us of the areas of concern to you at infor@aurora-clinics.co.uk and we may be able to give you advise as to the best way forward for you.

I have wrinkles forming on my forehead what should i do?

October 5th, 2012
Q.
Hello Adrian, I am from Austria. I am 28 years old and am modelling in Germany at the moment. I have noticed that i have wrinkles forming on my head above my eyes. I think i am angry too much haha! What is the best way to get rid of these lines in my forehead, i can use make up but when i don’t have any on i feel like everyone is looking at them. What is your advice please, thank you very much!
A.
Thank you very much for your enquiry.

It does sounds as if Botox would be the ideal treatment for you to treat the lines in your forehead.

Theses lines are caused underlying muscle contraction and are generally best treated with Botox rather than Dermal Fillers.

It may be sensible to scheuled an appointment with a surgeon in your area to discuss the best way forward for you.

Alaternatively if you sent our a photo of the areas of concern to info@aurora-clinics.co.uk we would be delighted to give you an opionion as ot the best way forward.

Best Wishes

My chin is unbalanced, one side is weaker than the other, could a dermal filler balance this out?

July 27th, 2012
Q.
Hi,
I would like to have your advice,
My chin is assymetric. One side is weaker than the other. And it is enoughly noticeable to bother me.
I think filler could balance it.a
What type of fillers would you recommend? Also I don’t want any permanent fillers.
Thanks for your advice, I can provide
photo if needed?
A.
Thank you for your enquiry.

It certainly is possible to use fillers on your chin or alternatively Botox can be used to follow the muscles if one side is more powerful than the other.

I think this would be a very good opportunity for you and if you would to schedule an appoinmtent to see one of our nurses please contact us on 01844 214362.
