Can the Bio-Alcamid be removed from my pectoral area?

Dear Dr Forrester,
in 2010 I had pectoral implants which were far from perfect, the surgeon based in the UK, then added a total of 60mls bialcomide in an attempt to even out the effects. Two years on I have since had the implants removed and corrective surgery in the US, however the US surgeon was unfamilar with the product and therefore reluctant to remove it. I now often have tenderness where the bialcomide sits and am keen to have it removed. I have three questions. 1, can it been succesfully removed? 2. can I have it done in the uk? Is it a expensive and difficult proceedure? I would welcome your comments

Firstly let me say that I have never used Bio-Alcamid and therefore am neither an expert in its use nor its problems. As you probably know permanent fillers have become much less popular because of the side effects. I understand that removing these fillers is not easy. I do know a doctor who is very experienced in the use of Bio-alcamid. I would not want to give his name out but if you email me directly I will give you his details.

Would Restylane be safe to put in my nose?

Hello dr Peter, first sorry my bad english, to ten  years ago i put artecol in the wrinkle the noise to the mouth.Now I want to put something like restylane or another thing? But Doctor say that is dangerous , i don’t know what i do, please help, what can i put? im so sad to see my face like this way and i can t do something:( please answer my question and i hope you understand my bad english! thanks for your attention

The problem with all semi-permanent fillers is that they can suddenly cause problems years after they have been injected, even if everything had previously ben very settled. Restylane is a very safe hyaluronic acid filler. However, your doctor probably said that they wouldn’t inject it where Artecol had been used just in case it caused it triggered a reaction with the Artecol.

Will dermal fillers wear off and make my face droop?

Hi, I am wondering if you can help. I was having a chat with friends regarding dermal fillers, Botox etc as I am considering having both done for forehead lines and nose to month lines. However they were against it saying that once it wore off the face would just drop and the lines would be worse! However I am thinking having it earlier rather than later would help as it would stop the wrinkles constantly contracting as the face wouldn’t move the same so they’d actually be less noticeable once it wore off compared to a woman the same age who had never had treatment am I right? Thanks

There is no evidence that things will be worse when Botox or fillers wear off. Equally, there is not a lot of evidence that they have a long term benefit, although I suspect that they do. There is some evidence that hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers such as Restylane or Emervel improve the texture and hydration of the overlying skin. Also HA fillers have been shown to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production.

Certainly having them earlier rather than later means that you wold probably need smaller amounts and the results are likely to be more subtle and natural.

How can I sort out the problems with my fillers?

I had fillers (I think restalyne or a generic version thereof actually) injected under my eyes to reduce the bags of wrinkles I have there. This was done on the 14th of December 2012. Since having the fillers done, I look absolutely worse every day.I have swelling and a bad ‘shift’ of the wrinkles under my eyes which is the area where the filler was injected.My wrinkles were previously partially hidden under my glasses, but now this area seems to have ‘dropped’ to below the frames of my glasses. I look and feel horrible. I, and those who know me, say I look worse for having done fillers, even though I obviosly had it done to look somewhat ‘fresher’.Is there a remedy for the swelling and ‘drop’ of myn wrinkles? Have you heard of this happening before? I am desperate as the fillers were done a month ago and my eyes look worse every day with swelling.I am worried sick.

Fillers in the under-eye and Tear Trough area can be problematic and can take weeks to properly settle down.
It is difficult to give a useful opinion via email. However, one of the advantages of HA fillers is that they can be reduced by injecting the enzyme hyalase. You need to see an experienced Cosmetic Doctor to discuss the options for resolving this issue.

Would it be possible to reshape my nose with dermal fillers?

Hiya, I’ve been looking into possibly undergoing a non surgical nose reshape, I’ve got a slight bump on the bridge of my nose that I’d just like flattened, to create a more flat nose shape from a profile view. I’ve been researching different non surgical treatments, including Radiesse and Aquamid, I wanted something that was as long lasting as possible so I can avoid having to have the procedure re-done. I’m a 19 year old male, I was wondering what options I have, obviously trying to keep the costs to a minimum but still keeping a great and long lasting result. I look forward to hearing from you.

To be honest right from the start; I have no personal experience of nasal reshaping with fillers and it is not something that I would do. I would suggest however, that before you allow someone to inject a long-lasing filler such as Aquamid into your nose it might be a good idea to try a HA filler first. Although this is not a long term solution it would allow you to see whether you like the effect. If it wasn’t quite what you were hoping for then at least it would slowly disappear or you could have hyalase injected to disperse it.
You are obviously doing some research, which is good. Be very careful and good luck.

Is it possible to refill lips which have been treated with Aquamid?

Hi Dr,
Can one who has had lip augmentation with Aquamid 2 years ago , now refill her lip with a shorter lasting gel such as a hialloronic acid filler over it ? It seems that the previous gel has been maximally disappeared unless a few palpable micronodules in lip contour . and in general what could we do with the remaining gel nodules in treated areas ? what is your opinion about ALAYNA fillers ? Hello there,
I am very conservative when it comes to fillers and particularly lip fillers where I would only use a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler. Although not long-lasting they are very safe and rarely cause problems. In addition they can be dispersed with hyalase.
The question about injecting HA over Aquamid is a difficult one. All I can say is that if the Aquamid has been very settled for a number of years then it might be OK. There is always a risk of the HA triggering problems with the underlying permanent filler.
If the Aquamid nodules are not causing you any bother then I would leave them alone.

Can dermal fillers help me to look my age again?

I’m 46 years old and have a busy and stressful job and three kids, which has all taken its toll on my face and I look about 100! I have wrinkles everywhere! Around my eyes, on my head, there are millions around my lips which really age me. And my cheeks have sunk and lost their plumpness, again adding to my aged appearance. Can dermal fillers help me with this? I want to look my age again! Thank you, I look forward to hearing your response

I am always relieved when someone says they want to look good for their age rather than wanting to look 20 years younger. The answer to looking the best you can, for your age, usually comes from a combination of treatments. Dermal fillers can immediately restore lost volume but only have a limited effect on superficial lines and poor skin tone/texture. These are often best addressed by prescription-strength skin care and collagen stimulating techniques – my personal favourite being INTRAcel.

Can Aquamid be used in the back of the hands?

Can Aquamid be used in the back of the hands? I have a youthful face and body, but my hands are those of an old lady!!! I could not afford to have filler which does not last more than a year or so and wonder if Aquamid could be used. I’ve been told fat transfer may be an option but this would be much more invasive and I’m guessing expensive. I am a nurse and need to clean my hands regularly with products which are very drying, I use sunblock on a daily basis, however my hands look awful, I would love to improve them with a filler

Although I can see the apparent attraction of using permanent fillers, I would not use a permanent filler in the hands.
I have seen HA fillers last surprisingly well in the backs of hands (including my own!). Radiesse has a good reputation for hands although I have not personally used it in this area.
Also, don’t forget that ageing hands are not just about volume loss. Poor tone, texture, age spots and pigmentation can all be addressed on the hands just as we would on the face. Tretinoin, hydroquinone and AHA’s all are useful when rejuvenating the hands.

Would dermal fillers work on my acne scars?

Hello Dr Forrester,
I had quite bad acne as a teenager and also as an adult which has left me with with some pitted scars on my face. They are mainly on my cheeks and they are quite noticeable, make-up or not. Do you think that fillers would work to plump out the scars at all?They are not very big, but there are quite a lot of them. Also, if fillers can work would you suggest I have any specific ones in particular?

Dear Kim,

Fillers can help with plumping pitted acne scarring but often need to be combined with some form of other procedure such as dermaroller or INTRAcel. A hyaluronic acid filler wold be the best choice – something like Restylane or Juvederm.

What is the cost of a syringe of permanent dermal filler for lip augmentation?

What is the cost one syringe of permanent dermal filler for lip augmentation(volume precisely)?
I’ve had temporary dermal fillers done on my lips and been satisfied with the results. For a subtle change I would opt for one syringe for upper and lower lips. I’ve always used Restylane as I liked the first result of it. My fillers would last about 10 to 12 months. However when I got it done the first time my fillers were completely gone in a week. What could have been the reason.
Now I’m considering getting permanent dermal fillers for my lips for their volume and I would like to know their cost and what names are they available? Does Restylane have permanent fillers?
Where can it be done in Birmingham, UK?

I would absolutely NOT recommend having any form of permanent filler in your lips.
Although it may seem a good idea, in my opinion the safety advantages of HA fillers far outweigh their lack of longevity. I would recommend Restylane Lip Volume or Emervel Lips.
