Can you please ease my concerns about the potential side-effects of dermal fillers?

Q.
Hi, i am considering having a dermal filler treatment for the lines between my nose and mouth and maybe one on my chin. I am a 24 year old man but having spent a lot of time in the sun i think its slowly starting to take its toll. I am concerned as the lines aren’t deep and i am sure they are way more noticeable to me than they are to other people as i have never had any comments on anything like that from people. I just want my skin to look like it did maybe two years ago when i had no issues with it at all and i have now realized how important it is to protect my skin when sunbathing so won’t be taking that risk in the future (i now use factor 15 and only live in Stoke on Trent, England so its hardly sun you get in Florida). Another issue i have is obviously been a man i need it to be subtle and not obvious i have had it done. I have looked around a few clinics and considered Harley Street Medical but having read their reviews i have opted for Botonics in London instead. I am not trying to get it done on the cheap and have considered this for at least a year so i am 100% i want the treatment now. I had botox for the forehead and took ages before deciding whether to go ahead so its not like i am rushing into a decision. I am thinking of having the treatment on the Tuesday and then returning to work on the Saturday as this is as long as i can have off work without putting my job at risk. Would four days be enough for any side effects to have gone? I am thinking of buying a product called lycogel which claims to dramatically speed up the healing after the treatment, have you any knowledge of this? The other issue i have which i would be embarrassed to ask a doctor is i have always had a sun tan and would like to use tanning products probably on the Saturday i returned to work, would this be ok? and when is it okay to sunbathe again after treatment? The main thing i was hoping you could help me with is when you hear of really bad side effects, how often is this? If you could please send me some statistics as to say if 100 treatments were performed how many of them ended up with the most serious side effects that would be ideal. Sorry to ask you so many questions but i really don’t have a great idea other than what i have read so far and i am not sure how much of that is true either. Please get back to me when you get chance. Thank you.

Hi thanks for your question.

Essentially you should be fine to return to work within 24 hours of dermal filler treatments. You might have mild swelling but this is not usually too noticeable.

I have no experience of lycogel and a sun tan should not affect the results.

Out of 100 patients we would not expect to have any serious side effects with any of them.

I hope this helps

With best wishes
