What treatment can I have for my lip wrinkles?

July 2nd, 2013
Q.
I’m starting to get lip wrinkles and I’m only 35. I did smoke in my 20s but no longer. I seem to have almost scars? My mother has really bad lip wrinkles am I heading that way if they have started to appear at 35? I feel so alone as no one my age has these. It’s really knocked my confidence. I hate to have my photo taken and I’ve just had a baby so it’s hard to avoid the camera. They seem to get worse by the week more seem to appear soon I will have no normal skin left it will all be little lines! What treatment is best?
A.
Hi
Without assessing you whether it is a loss of volume, skin elasticity or overactive lip muscles, I usually suggest some fine dermal filler along the lip border. This gives better shape to the lip and fills in little lines. The good news is this is a quick treatment and results are almost instantaneous, leaving you free to have as many photos as you wish!

I am worried about getting fillers for my upper lip

March 12th, 2013
Q.
Hi Dr, I would like some advice about getting fillers for my lips. I have quite a good sized lower lip, but my top lip is very thin. So, generally i dont draw attention to them by wearing gloss or lipstick. I would like to increase the volume of my top lip, just so it looks better with my lower lip. The problem is that I am worried it will go wrong and I think the celebrities I have seen have it look dreadful. I don’t want to look like a duck, or for them to look unnatural.I live in Guildford don’t know where to go.Thanks Dr Forrester for your time.
A.
Hi There,
The media gives a lot of exposure to over-done celebrity lips and so called ‘trout pouts’. Naturally this leads people to think that it is always done that way. Of course, if someone has subtle and natural lip filler you wouldn’t even notice. You probably see them every day without a second look.
The lips are a sensitive area and so some initial swelling and bruising may be apparent for a day or so.
I’d happily see you in Esher to discuss the issues. Alternatively if you email me directly (see my website for email address) I can give you the name of a highly recommended doctor in Guildford.

Is it possible to refill lips which have been treated with Aquamid?

January 7th, 2013
Q.
Hi Dr,
Can one who has had lip augmentation with Aquamid 2 years ago , now refill her lip with a shorter lasting gel such as a hialloronic acid filler over it ? It seems that the previous gel has been maximally disappeared unless a few palpable micronodules in lip contour . and in general what could we do with the remaining gel nodules in treated areas ? what is your opinion about ALAYNA fillers ? Thank you so much
Best regards.
A.
Hello there,
I am very conservative when it comes to fillers and particularly lip fillers where I would only use a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler. Although not long-lasting they are very safe and rarely cause problems. In addition they can be dispersed with hyalase.
The question about injecting HA over Aquamid is a difficult one. All I can say is that if the Aquamid has been very settled for a number of years then it might be OK. There is always a risk of the HA triggering problems with the underlying permanent filler.
If the Aquamid nodules are not causing you any bother then I would leave them alone.
I hope this is of some help.
Kind regards,
Dr Peter Forrester

What is the cost of a syringe of permanent dermal filler for lip augmentation?

December 11th, 2012
Q.
What is the cost one syringe of permanent dermal filler for lip augmentation(volume precisely)?
I’ve had temporary dermal fillers done on my lips and been satisfied with the results. For a subtle change I would opt for one syringe for upper and lower lips. I’ve always used Restylane as I liked the first result of it. My fillers would last about 10 to 12 months. However when I got it done the first time my fillers were completely gone in a week. What could have been the reason.
Now I’m considering getting permanent dermal fillers for my lips for their volume and I would like to know their cost and what names are they available? Does Restylane have permanent fillers?
Where can it be done in Birmingham, UK?
A.
I would absolutely NOT recommend having any form of permanent filler in your lips.
Although it may seem a good idea, in my opinion the safety advantages of HA fillers far outweigh their lack of longevity. I would recommend Restylane Lip Volume or Emervel Lips.

How can I achieve fuller lips with out getting a ‘trout pout’?

November 30th, 2012
Q.
Hello Dr Peter,
I would like to have fuller lips but I am worried about getting a so-called ‘trout pout’ like many celebrities seem to fashion these days. Id there any kind of filler that I should stay clear of or any that you would recommend for the lips?I don’t want a huge change just more volume so my lipstick looks better and my face is more proportional. Also, I am worried about how to find a good clinic to get the procedure done , any tips for this? Thanks for your help and I look forward to reading your view.
A.
Hello,

I would very definitely go for a mainstream HA filler for the lips. Probably Restylane Lip Volume or Juvederm. A skilled and sensitive practitioner will never over-fill the lips. Lips should never look ‘treated’. However, remember that lips are an area of the face that will always swell and bruise for a day or two, so be prepared for some downtime.

If you don’t have a personal recommendation then you could start with the Restylane practitioner finder at http://www.restylane.co.uk/Practitioner-Finder/

How can I increase the volume in my lips?

November 13th, 2012
Q.
Hello I’m interested in increasing the volume of my lips, they are very thin, not what a women wants at all! I’ve done some research and I’ve heard mixed reviews about Juvederm? I didn’t know if researching it on the internet was a reliable source? I was hoping to get your opinion on which product is best to use for lip enhancement? What is the price of a syringe at your clinic? Thanks a lot for your time its appreciated! Regards.
A.
The problem is that when things don’t go as expected people are very motivated to share their experiences on the internet. However, when things go well they tend not to bother posting on the web which gives a bit of a skewed view of things.
For reasons of personal preference I use Restylane but Juvederm is an excellent HA filler and suitable for use in the lips. Personally I would always go for either Juvederm or Restylane.

In our clinic a 1.0ml syringe of Restylane is £325.
When comparing prices remember that when clinics quote prices per ‘syringe’ you need to be aware of the fact that a syringe can be either 0.5 or 1.0ml therefore you need to look at volume as well.
Also, don’t forget that when choosing a treatment it is not just about shopping around for the lowest price. Having facial injectables such as Botox or Restylane is not like buying the cheapest product from the supermarket – this is your face we’re talking about here. As well as the cost of the actual product you are also paying for the time, advice, expertise and follow-up from a qualified professional.

What is the cost of micro-fill treatment to the upper lip?

November 8th, 2012
Q.
I am 51 and have some vertical lip lines. I have seen a demonstration film of the artiste method with the FINE needle. Would this be very painful? Is this method only available in your Esher clinic or do you work from any central London clinics? Finally, what is the price for treatment to the upper lip? Thank you.
A.
Hello,  This technique is not painful because I either use topical local anaesthetic gel or a nerve block.
After a number of years travelling around I now only work from our Esher clinic where I find that I have more control over the environment and facilities. I think this makes the whole client experience much more satisfying, effective and safe. The cost of a micro-fill technique on the upper lip is £375.

We do not charge for an initial consultation if you would like to discuss the options.

I want lip enhancement treatment but i want it to look natural, what do you suggest?

October 12th, 2012
Q.
Hi, its a question regarding lip enhancement. I have very thin lips bottom lip is slightly larger but still not very plump. I am currently wearing a brace and its filled them out but once this comes off theyll be back to normal. Ive seen the celebs that have had there lips done and it looks terrible, is there any product on the market for thin lips that doesn’t make you look like a duck that literally just fills them out abit?. I also suffer with cold sores will the treatment bring one out?thanks
A.
Hello there, thanks for your question.

I can see why you are concerned, in my opinion there are lots of folks out there with badly & over done lips. If that’s what they want, then fine but it’s not what most people want from a lip enhancement. The problem is that it gives the impression that this is how it’s always done. However there are lots of people with very natural-looking lip enhancements, but you won’t notice them – you’d think that they had nice, naturally full lips.

The secret is not which product, but how much volume is used. A full discussion with your practitioner should ascertain what you are looking to achieve and importantly what you are not looking to achieve.

I favour Restylane Lip Volume but there are other hyaluronic acid fillers that also would work well.

With regard to your cold sores I would prescribe a short course of aciclovir tablets (zovirax) for 5 days after treatment so that this was not a problem.

I really want my lips plumping up. What is a good reliable product?

May 14th, 2012
Q.
Been thinking about getting my lips plumped up with some extra volumes and just wanted to know what would be the best product to use. It seems that there are too many choices and you never know which ones are legit and which ones might be some cheap alternative. I really dont want to have a reaction or something by using some cheap product and would rather choose one that is best known for its safety and with possibility of least complication. Thanks for your advice and look forward to you answer.
A.
Thank you very much for your enquiry.

Genreally we would recommend the Allergan products which include the Juvederm range for lip enhancement procedures.

These products have got a very good safety rdcored and we find they produce a very natural appearance and are safe in the long term.

I think it would certainly be worthwhile  discussing this with a practitioner and one of our nurses would be happy to discuss this with you if you would like to discuss this isn more detail

If you would a consultation please call us on 01844 214362 or email us at info@aurora-clinics,co.uk

Which non surgical treatment for lip enhancement lasts the longest? The past few times I’ve had them done, it seems to wear off quickly?

April 25th, 2012
Q.
I was hoping you could tell me which non surgical treatment is the best one for lip enhancement in terms of how long it will last. Is their one particular brand that lasts longer than others or do they all last the same amount of time. I have had my lips done a few times in the past but they tend to wear off quite quickly which was quite frustrating and expensive so i am hoping to have them done this time with something that is safe but also lasts a bit longer than usual. If you could let me know above information and also availability of appointments i would be very interested in coming in and seeing you. Look forward to hearing from you!
A.
Hi, Thank you for your enquiry.

Juvederm and Belatero work in a similar fashion for the lips and I don’t think there is dramatic difference between them

Fat transfer is more likely to be permanent and does require an operation. It has the advanatge of using your own tissue.

Sculptra is different in that it encourages your normal tissue to thicken slightly and is not usually used on the lips but is used in the cheek areas.

Generally, we would reocmmend you come in to see us so we have a good look at your face so we can discuss the best way forward for you.

Best Wishes, Adrian Richards
