Varioderm™ - Dermal Fillers

This range is manufactured in Germany by Adoderm GmbH whist distribution in the UK is done by Medical Aesthetics Group. It was launched in April 2008. It consists of highly cross-linked, non-animal hyaluronic acid in four concentrations and the non-animal hyaluronic acid (NaHA) gel. It is made through the bacterial fermentation of streptococci bacteria. No skin tests are required before treatment and it has a temporary effect, bearing the European CE mark of approval and only to be used by trained practitioners.

The product range includes Varioderm™ Fine Line which is suitable for superficial wrinkles and lines, periorbital lines, crow's feet and perioral lines. Varioderm™ can treat frown lines, nasolabial folds, lip contours, and medium to deep wrinkles. Varioderm™ Plus is designed for cheek augmentation and treating deep wrinkles like nasolabial folds. Varioderm™ Subdermal comes in 27mg/ml of hyaluronic acid and is suitable for correcting contours, the replacement of volume in the chin, nasolabial areas and the cheeks.

People with hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid or autoimmune disease, and those who are breastfeeding or pregnant, should not use it. The immediate redness after the injections can be eased by using a cooling device or an ice pack. No make-up should be worn for up to 12 hours after treatment, and the patient should avoid exposure to the sun or use sun block for approximately 10 days after treatment.

After treatment the effects can last from six to sixteen months according to the manufacturers. Among the expected side-effects are redness (transient erythema), implant site discomfort and swelling, but recovery from these effects should take only a few days. Cost is dependent on the practitioner, the type of product range used, the area of treatment and the amount required. On average a treatment involving 2 packs of syringes of Varioderm™ Fine Line will cost £200 and it will be £250 for Varioderm™, £275 for Varioderm™ Plus and £300 for Varioderm™ Subdermal.
